“Music for children, an abandoned house, five strangers: it looks like the classic horror movie and instead …”, says Netflix in a first teaser that, in a few seconds, leaves you with the feeling that you are about to see something terrible, especially after listening to the disturbing Italian song that plays in the background, which is a kind of lullaby for a psychopath.
A Classic Horror Story, by Roberto De Feo (from The Nest) and Paolo Strippoli, seems to be a tribute to classic Italian horror cinema ( with directors like Dario Argento, which can be seen in their colors and mysterious shots, and Mario Bava ), but with a touch that is even more terrifying on a psychological level.
Contrary to its name, this is not a classic tale, rather it seems to be a story that draws inspiration from the classics and the past, to explode modern terror in unexpected ways, and Netflix says it is as if Midsommar and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre would have had a child.
The trailer
The first teaser doesn’t show much, we just see a cabin surrounded by trees and mountains, and then it cuts to show a picture of a man who clearly doesn’t mean well.
The trailer then lets hear the laments of a man who is later shown placed in what appears to be a brutal torture device, but everything cuts out before we can see what happens to him at the hands of the mysterious man who seems to be operating machine.
What is A Classic Horror Story about?
According to Variety, the film shows five people traveling by motorhome to reach a common destination. But, night falls and to avoid the corpse of a dead animal on the road, they make a quick maneuver and crash into a tree. When they wake up, they find themselves in the middle of nowhere, the road they were traveling on is gone and there is only a dense and dark forest, and a small wooden cabin in the middle of nowhere, which happens to be the home of the members of a chilling cult.
The cast
The cast is made up of Francesco Russo, Peppino Mazzotta, Yulia Sobol, Will Merrick, Alida Baldari Calabria Cristina Donadio (“Gomorrah”) and Matilda Lutz , who appeared in the French revenge film Reveng (from French director Coralie Fargeat, in the who plays a woman seeking revenge after being abused by three men and left for dead in the desert) and starred in Rings by F. Javier Gutiérrez, the third US installment of The Ring franchise.
When it premieres?
A Classic Horror Story promises to give a twist to the genre that became popular in Italy between the 60s and 70s (and that left us movies like Suspiria ) and will arrive on Netflix to give you nightmares on July 14 of this year.
This is clearly not suitable for the most sensitive, so if you are going to see it, you should do it at your own risk, and probably accompanied by someone a little braver than you so that you will not be abandoned in the middle.
