The sequel will feature Joaquin Phoenix’s return to the role of the Clown Prince of Crime
Joker: Folie a Deux, sequel to Joker, already has an official date to hit theaters. The film, which features the returns of director and screenwriter Todd Phillips and Oscar-winner for Best Actor Joaquin Phoenix, was slated to premiere on October 4, 2024.
In addition, Deadline also revealed that production on the feature, which may also feature Lady Gaga in its cast, should begin in December 2022.
Joker made history as the comic book movie with the most Oscar nominations. There were 11, including best film, and wins for best actor (Phoenix) and best soundtrack (Hildur Guðnadóttir).
In the plot, we followed an alternative version of Gotham City’s famous criminal clown. Inspired by classics by Martin Scorsese, such as Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, the film sought to discuss mental health and social exclusion through the character.
Grossing over $1 billion at the worldwide box office, the film surpassed the Deadpool films to become the highest-grossing R-rated feature in history.
