Kevin Spacey marks return to acting in pedophilia drama

House of Cards actor has received several accusations of harassment in recent years

After four years out of the spotlight after several accusations of harassment, actor Kevin Spacey marked his return to the cinema by being cast in an Italian drama about a man accused of pedophilia. Directed by actor Frank Nero (Django Livre, Duro de Matar 2), the film will feature Spacey in the role of a police officer investigating a falsely accused subject.

“I’m very happy that Kevin agreed to participate in my film,” Nero told ABC News [via The Guardian]. “I consider him a great actor and I can’t wait to start the film.”

The feature, entitled L’uomo che disegnò Dio, will also feature Vanessa Redgrave, Nero’s wife, in the cast.

The first complaint of harassment against Kevin Spacey came from actor Anthony Rapp, in October 2017, about an event that occurred when he was 14 years old. At the time, the actor apologized and declared himself gay. However, since then, new complaints have emerged, including eight members of the House of Cards production.

Since the first case, the Old Vic – the London theater that the actor has run for 11 years – has received complaints from more than 20 men who claim to have been harassed by Spacey.

Amid the repercussion of the cases, the Emmy canceled a tribute that prepared for the actor and the production of the sixth season of House of Cards was suspended, while Netflix investigated the complaints. Spacey was then fired from the streaming service, in addition to being replaced in the feature All the Money in the World.

At the end of 2019, Spacey reappeared in a video that makes direct reference to his old series, House of Cards. Titled “Let me be Frank” (reference to Frank Underwood, his character), the three-minute monologue seems to speak of the accusations involving his personal life at the same time that he talks about the end of the program.
