Netflix movies nominated for the Oscar 2021

Barck Obama and David Fincher could win an Academy Award for their movies already on Netflix.

Netflix already had a taste of the glory of the Oscar with films such as Rome, The Irishman and Marriage Story , and it is increasingly clear that its intention is no longer just to entertain us, but to dominate the game of cinema and series, and demonstrate to the major studios (along with Martin Scorsese) that streaming is the future of cinema.

The first time a Netflix movie reached the Oscars , critics and film purists went crazy, they did not believe that a streaming movie, especially if it had not been released in the traditional format, did not take place at an awards ceremony that, historically, has recognized the projects that are released on the big screen.

Netflix came to change the scheme and, although at first it was not even mentioned in the awards, the Academy had no choice but to adapt to the times, especially after great directors and actors, such as Scorsese himself , Alfonso Cuarón, Scarlett Johansson, Noah Baumbach and more, made the jump to streaming.

Is cinema just what is broadcast on a giant screen and shot on an analog film? Of course not, and it no longer makes any sense to hold on to the past. This year it taught us that even cinema has to find new ways to stay in touch with audiences, and that gives Netflix and other streaming platforms the upper hand .

2020 has certainly been a strange year, and although the billboards around the world are relatively empty, a few great films were nominated for an Oscar, even without being released. In the case of Netflix, there are 10 titles that got nominations in different categories.
