Rick & Morty jokes about Wonder Woman 1984

In its new episode, Rick and Morty brought a little joke involving Wonder Woman 1984, a feature film by DC Comics.

Obviously, this text contains some minor spoilers for the episode in question. So don’t read on if you haven’t seen it yet.

The Wonder Woman 1984 joke comes at a rather unusual time. It is revealed that Rick has installed Jerry with a shell-like emotional defense system, which he activates after an unpleasant discovery.

In trying to explain how it works, Rick says, “It’s an emotional defense system. I got drunk with Jerry one night and he said it was the thing he wanted most in the whole world.”

“Anyway, he’s in perfect health in there and can come out whenever he wants. It’s a cool power to have if you have to fly economy class or if Summer asks you what you thought of Wonder Woman 1984.”

The joke here is with the divisive reactions that Wonder Woman 1984 ended up causing. Some people criticized the blockbuster a lot, but it seems like it’s not a good idea to do it in Summer’s presence.

In Rick & Morty, Rick Sanchez is a genius scientist and alcoholic who moves in with the family of his daughter Beth, an equine heart surgeon. He divides his time between developing high-tech projects in his lab (Beth’s garage) and taking his 14-year-old grandson Morty on dangerous and surreal adventures across the Multiverse. Combined with preexisting tensions within the family, these events cause the sensitive Morty much anguish at home and at school.

It is worth remembering that  Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, creators of the series, continue to develop unpublished stories, as the production received a renewal order for another 70 episodes in 2018.

No wonder, the scripts for the seventh season  have already been completed .
